Eibhlín Bheag agus an Cnó Cócó Le Brigid O’Dea

September 18, 2020

Seo é Eibhlín Bheag agus an Cnó Cócó Le Brigid O'Dea

Is eilifint í Eibhlín. Ach eilifint an-bheag atá inti.

Tá Eibhlín ag imirt cluiche lena cairde ach níl sí in ann teacht ar an liathróid! (Bhuel cnó cócó atá i gceist sa cluiche seo!!) Tugann an eilifint léimt. Síneann sí amach a trunc. Dreapann sí creann ard. Ach cibé rud a dhéanann an eilifint, ní bhfaigheann sí an cnó cócó choíche. Tá a dóchas caillte aici go dtí go dtarlaíonn rud éigin aisteach. Sáinníodh an cnó cócó i spás beag. Agus ní bhféadfadh ach le hainmhí amháin an cnó cócó a aimsiú…

“Is cinnte nach mbeimid ábalta dul go dtí na siopaí san Omni, ná bac le Gaillimh!” arsa Ferdia ag taisteal ar scátaí rothacha, le Tory ag dul thart ina cathaoir rothaí. Tá díomá an domhain ar Tory agus Ferdia nuair a chuirtear stad ar a gcuid laethanta saoire. However, the discovery of a magical
bag in The Tolka takes the friends on an adventure far greater than their wildest dreams.

The Office of Lost Things by Sara Buckley

The Office of Lost Things by Sara Buckley

July 24, 2020

This week's Super Paua Story is The Office of Lost Things, by Sara Buckley.

"Ding. Another pile of mail comes down the shoot and lands on the table, amongst the sea of brown there is one cream envelope. Seeing this ANEURIN stands quickly and shuffles through the mountain before grabbing it.

Aneurin: Finally.

He opens it with great care, using a letter opener.

Aneurin: ‘I find myself to still be utterly bewitched by you and yet the spell must be broken if I am to go on living…this will be my last correspondence…even now in my mind’s eye I gaze upon the deep green sea and bask in the shade of JJ’s Tower. And you, my most cherished Winnie, are all that fills my thoughts…all my love, Violet.’

Pause

Aneurin: Well that’s not ideal now is it."

Duisíonn Na hIoraí Rua by Lewis Kenny

Duisíonn Na hIoraí Rua by Lewis Kenny

July 17, 2020

This week's Super Paua Story is Duisíonn Na hIoraí Rua, by Lewis Kenny.

"Far across the sea, in a wild and mystical forest called Iorainn, there lived a fuzzy bunch of red squirrels known as the Iora Rua. Now red squirrels love nothing more in the world than collecting acorns. Every autumn they would all go out together and gather them up in a big pile to store for winter. They would sing their squirrel songs, dance their acorn jigs, tell magical squirrel stories in their squeaky squirrel language called Bíog. These were exceptional times and the Iora Rua lived in peace and harmony. But nothing lasts forever."

Derval by Gráinne Keenan

Derval by Gráinne Keenan

July 10, 2020

This week's Super Paua Story is Derval, by Gráinne Keenan.

"The thing about Derval was that she had a serious affliction. She didn’t actually want to stab Angela Fitzgerald’s birthday trampoline with a knife or smash her face into the birthday cake. Or yank Donal Higgins’ trousers down in front of everyone at lunch. Or cover all the boys’ toilet seats with cling film. Or plant worms in Neasa Toohill’s ham sandwich. She didn’t want to do these things but there was something powerful and irresistible inside that made her do them. Every time she tried to make a friend, her own mischievous urges got in the way. "Bill the Bear, though he didn’t much care,
was told he had bad luck
To be born with legs long and limber
but had no arms nor thumbs to suck.

Bill laughed at friends cutting finger nails
wasting so much of their lives
But sometimes felt a little sad
watching them clap and give high fives."

"The next few weeks would be a crucial time in Nan and Fiachra’s preparations. It was Nan’s dream to take home the gold prize and only one thing stood in her way – Petronella Hastings; bean ard a bhí i gcónaí ag cruthú rí rá agus ruaille buaille. Bhuaigh sí an comórtas anuraidh agus an bhliain roimhe sin. Agus deirtear go slíbhín ceart í..."

"But on nights when Mam wasn’t around, Granny and I would watch tv programmes about my favourite topic: space. I was obsessed with space, so much so that Granny nicknamed me her ‘little alien’. I loved pretending to be an alien from another planet. I always thought humans were so boring compared to the endless possibilities that existed in the alien world. Space was for everyone. It didn’t matter if you were a girl or a boy or whatever. In space, everyone was equal and nothing was weird."

This week's Super Paua Story is A Head Full Of Colour, by Berni Stack.

"Wait! There in the distance, there’s a pinprick of light. Do you want to see? Is it far away in the distance? It’s out of your touch. Stretch out those fingers, go on. Stretch some more. Maybe you can touch it. A star moving across the night sky, a silvery streak, a fuzzy blur. Or maybe it’s a firework about to burst open and crack into the night sky, spitting out its fantastic colours. Ooooh. Aaaaaah."
